THE Department of Public Safetys Bureau of Motor Vehicles used to have three examiners who could issue a drivers license.
DPS spokesman Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. said this policy has been changed and there is now only one signing authority, the BMV director, Juana C. Leon Guerrero.
Among the three previous BMV examiners was William Hocog who was indicted with four other co-defendants in federal court for conspiracy, unlawful transfer and production of an identification document that involved the CNMI drivers license.
Indicted along with Hocog were Mohammad Jahangir Miah, his wife Tahira Dolores Miah, Hongmei Sun, and Huiqiang Yan.
Except for Mr. Miah, the defendants have been released after each posting $25,000 unsecured bonds.
Mr. Miah has been in detention since his arrest last Dec. 12, 2010.
All have pleaded not guilty and their jury trial has been set for March 7, 2011.
In Superior Court, the jury trial for Derek Robert Duenas " charged with conspiracy and bribery in connection with CNMI drivers license case " has been scheduled for April 4, 2011.
Duenas co-defendant, Dong Hyen Kim, will be sentenced on April 25. He has pleaded guilty to one count of bribery.
