DOZENS of motorists lined up at Mobil filling stations on Saturday before the oil company increased its fuel prices.
Because Mobil Oil and Shell Marianas do not increase their prices on the same day, people are warned every time one of them makes the first go.
Those who lined up for gas on Saturday morning knew already that Mobil would increase its prices in response to the Shell Marianas price hike on Friday afternoon.
Mobils price increase mirrored Shells.
From $4.12 per gallon, the price of Mobil regular gas is now $4.20. Premium gas went up from $4.44 to $4.52 while diesel increased from $4.33 to $4.41.
Rommel Yanto, a florist, said he did not know that Shell increased its gas price on Friday. Yanto was buying gas for his car at a Mobil station a few minutes after it increased its prices.
œI still have to buy gas whatever the price is, he said.
Ray Dela Cruz of Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services said because of the continuous increase in gas prices people should list down everything they need to buy so they dont have to go back and forth especially if they live in a remote part of the island like Kagman.
œYou cant just choose to buy something when you are already on your way home. You have to make sure you go to the store one time, said Dela Cruz who lives in Papago.
He said $20 gas is still excellent for three days with his pick-up truck.
Nova Castro, a housewife, said its excellent that she is already retired so she stays at home most of the time.
The only time she has to drive is when she has to visit her mother and buy something from the store.
Once gas prices increase, she added, œwhat can we do? I still have to fill my car with gas.
She buys $20 worth of gas once a week.
Tito Alano, a mechanic, said he is œsick and tired of the gasoline price increases.
œI reckon its best to take out my car engine and replace it with something that bicycle pedals can run, he said.
