THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. disconnected power to the legislative building at 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
But it was restored 25 minutes later after the Legislative Bureau talked with CUC.
LB Director Glenna S. Palacios Reyes, in an interview, said she clarified to CUC Executive Director Abe Malae that they had been submitting their monthly requests for payment to the Department of Finance on time.
Reyes said after her conversation with Malae, CUC sent its staff back and restored power to the legislative building.
Senate Sgt.-at-Arms John Santos and legislative staffer Ivan Mereb said they were at the back of the building when they saw CUC staff arrived to cut off the power.
All they could do, they said, was watch.
Reyes said they receive a monthly power bill that ranges from $3,000 to $4,000.
Variety learned that Finance has not been remitting payments to CUC due to the governments cashflow problems.
The Legislature now owes CUC $13,000, which means that it is about four months behind on payments.
Under the current budget law, or P.L. 17-21, Finance was allotted $7.5 million for the governments CUC bills.
