This morning I received the following message from the Homer Hartage for School Board Chair campaign:
Dear Angelo,Last week I officially qualified as a candidate for Orange County School Board Chair.
But there is more news, in the same week I also earned two key endorsements: one from the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association (CTA), which represents 6,000 teachers, and the Iron Workers Local Union 808. I thank all my supporters for getting me to this vital milestone.
Running for the School Board Chair is the most vital thing I have ever done, and I know I can make our schools better for your children and my grandchildren. As Chairman I will bring accountabilityto the Board and focus on improving the quality of education for all children.
We can make it happen. But I need your continued support to succeed in this plot to bring greater accountability, and academic excellence to our schools.
My opponents are raising thousands of dollars from Republican donors, politicians, real estate developers, and builders.They will use their money in an attempt to sway voters with a barrage of mail and media in the days ahead leading up to the election. I need to fight back. Once elected there is small doubt that they plot to use our schools as a political and business football.
Many of them supported a merit pay plot called Senate Bill 6 (SB6), which would have allowed a Tallahassee huge government takeover of our public schools and our teachers salaries.I fought against this and Governor Crist vetoed it.But they plot to bring it back, why?We cant let this happen. I will fight to improve our schools and support our teachers and staff. I will advocate for families to give them a voice on the School Board and listen to their suggestions and concerns about the education of their children.
