I started this blog over six years ago around the time I was applying for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program, hence the url that I have used for over half a decade, jetapplicant.blogspot.com.
That url served me well as a JET applicant, Japan resident, Micronesian environmentalist, mayoral candidate, unemployed bum, and finally Smithsonian contractor. But, I no longer feel that the jetapplicant url is appropriate for my blog these days, whatever it is my blog is about these days.
So I made a major change to The Saipan Blog today and my url from hence forward shall be www.taotaotasi.com. All of the links with the jetapplicant url will still work, so there is no need to rework your links.
I reckon this change is going to wreck havoc on my Search Engine Optimization, but thats something Im just going to have to live with.
So why Taotao Tasi?
I was sitting around with a friend who is putting together a non-profit that will do work in the Pacific and we were brainstorming potential names for her new venture. Being the super web-savvy eco-warriors that we are, we were checking the availability of such names on the Internet as we went. Lo and behold, the original owner of Taotao Tasi dot com let the url lapse. I snapped that baby up on the spot.
In Chamorro, Taotao Tasi means people of the sea. Im an indigenous marine conservationist, and the only person on Saipan to have ever made a living as an environmentalist outside of government service, so I thought it appropriate for The Saipan Blog " which is mostly about me trying to lose weight these last few weeks, but whatever.
