Guam National Guard Adjutant General appointee Major General Benny Paulino received nothing but praise for nearly two hours from colleagues, friends and family members during his confirmation hearing yesterday before the Committee on the Guam Military Buildup and Homeland Security.
Paulino was accompanied by his wife Bernie Paulino, his sister Carmen Meno Paulino and his mother Floran Meno Paulino at the hearing.
Retired Senior Master Sergeant Greg Perez testified in support of Paulino and commended his leadership when Paulino headed the Guard under the administration of former Governor Carl Gutierrez.
Perez cited several events wherein Paulino provided his guidance and leadership when it was needed most such as the Korean Airlines crash and after Super Typhoon Paka in 1997.
Also providing testimony was Dr. Chris Perez, of the Doctors Clinic, who joked about how he was Paulinos boss at the clinic where Paulino worked as Chief Operations Officer and would soon be working under the major general as the state surgeon for the Guam National Guard.
œI want you to know he will not let us down, said Perez.
Former Guam National Guard General Frank C. Torres, Jr., also stopped by to show his support for Paulino. During his testimony, Torres got up and went straight to Paulino to shake his hand.
œYoure alright, said Torres to Paulino.
œIm here to submit unsolicited testimony. I do believe in Benny Paulino. Ive been there and I know what he has to work (with), Torres said.
He advised Paulino, though, to look after the soldiers and the airmen under his wing.
œIf you dont take care of the troops, they wont take care of you and you can count on that. Thats very right, said Torres.Paulino will be confirmed at the next session of the Guam Legislature.
