GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial yesterday defended the hiring of over 100 new government employees, saying the vacancies are funded by the fiscal year 2011 budget law.
The Legislature on Friday approved the hirings.
Questioned why he still filled the vacancies despite the governments financial problems, Fitial pointed at Office of Personnel Management Director Sid Seman, saying œQuestion him. He lacks four [employees] and only one staffer is doing four jobs.
The new employees are for the governors office, OPM, Rota Health Center, Saipan mayors office, Criminal Plotting Justice Agency, Department of Corrections, Department of Public Health, Department of Public Lands, the judiciary, Tinians Finance, Public Safety, Commerce, health center and mayors office.
On Friday, before the House approved the request for new employees, Rep. Froilan C. Tenorio, Covenant-Saipan, questioned: œWere not collecting enough so why are we authorizing new [employees]?
