The trial for Cal-Jerome Delorie, one of three men accused in the March, 2010 murder of Vincent Bernardo Peredo, will start with jury selection June 20.

Presiding Superior Court Judge Alberto Lamorena Wednesday set aside one week for the trial.

Delorie faces life without parole if convicted of the most serious charge, according to his defense attorney, Howard Trapp.

Delorie is accused of aggravated murder and other charges in the beating death of Peredo, whose battered body was found in a pool of blood last March 8, his hands and feet bound.

Police at the time indicated it appeared to be a robbery gone awry.  Peredo was a known marijuana grower and the motive for the crime appeared to be to steal large amounts of the drug.

Trial dates for the two other defendants in the case, Derrick Cruz and Zared Zermaine Lizama, will be set later this month after it was learned one of the defense attorneys was not present in court yesterday afternoon.

Cruz is represented by the Public Defender, Rick Dirks, who was in the courtroom, while Lizamas attorney,  Sam Teker,  was absent.

Judge Lamorena issued an order to show cause why Attorney Teker should not be held in contempt of court because he was not there.   The three cases are expected to be tried separately.

The three men, along with two minor boys, allegedly played a part in a plot to steal Peredos marijuana. He finished up dead due to the severe beating he suffered from a baseball bat, allegedly wielded by one or more of the defendants, court documents showed.

They were all charged with murder as a first degree felony, aggravated murder as a first degree felony, burglary as a second degree felony with a special allegation of possession and use of a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit burglary as a second degree felony.

The charges against the two minors, Darren Cruz, brother of Derrick, and Shayne Terlaje were dropped after they were went to the Family Court, and the defendants agreed to testify for the prosecution.

The attorney prosecuting the Peredo murder case is Clyde Lemons, Jr. of the Attorney Generals Office. (Variety news staff)
