Efforts continued yesterday to find two Talofofo fishermen, who were both swept over the reef at First Beach in Ipan, Talofofo Saturday night while net fishing.
Guam Fire Department command chief of search and rescue operations Mike Aguon said everything is still the same.
œ(There are) no additional findings. Were just continuing on. Nothing has changed. We havent made any changes in our strategies, he said.
He said the U.S. Coast Guard has expanded the search efforts down towards Cocos Island in Merizo.
œWere searching as far north as Ylig and now down towards Cocos, he said.
Joseph Castro and Evan Paulino, both 25 and from Talofofo, were last seen Saturday night trying to get back on shore by Felix Torres, 18. Torres brother Steve Torres, 20, called authorities to help after he made it back to the beach.
The other three, but, were still in the water. Felix tried to help the other two but to no avail. In an earlier interview, he said he was in the water for about an hour before he managed to get back inside. The men were setting out a net along the reef along the channel area of the beach.
Mayor Vicente Taitague said the men were net fishing in Sagua Aniti or Devils Channel, which is located right next to First Beach. The beach itself is known as Asquiroga Cove or Devils Cove. Despite the name, the mayor said the waters at First Beach are safe, except when the conditions are heavy like it has been over the past few days.
Since Sunday, Taitague and his staff have been by the beach area, offering help to the families of the missing men. He said all four men are relatives of his and hes known them all for a long time.
œWere just praying the men will be found, he said of Castro and Paulino. œWe question everyone for their prayers as well.
