What was supposed to be a hiking excursion at Andersen Air Force Base finished up in tragedy after a 13-year-ancient girl died from injuries she received after a rock struck her.
The Variety received a phone call that the teenager was with a group of people hiking in an area on the base when debris from a rock slide fell on her head and knocked her out.
The girl was transported to Guam Memorial Hospital for treatment by emergency medical technicians.
GMH nursing supervisor Sally Quichocho confirmed the young girl was brought in at around 5:10 p.m. with serious head trauma. Attempts were made to resuscitate her but she was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m.
Sgt. Mike Andriacco, of the AAFB public affairs office, said the girl was a minor dependent of an active duty air force member.
He said the girl was injured and subsequently passed away following an accident on Andersen Air Force Base.
The 36th Wing want to express our condolences to the family on their tragic loss. The family respectfully requests privacy during their time of mourning, he said.
