At about 9:48 p.m. June 6, Boating Safety Officer Norbert Pua received a call about a distressed vessel about 10 miles southwest of Goat Island. At around 3 a.m. June 7, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter contacted Pua, saying the vessel was found about 25 miles due west of Goat Island.
