SOME members of the Pantalan Boys want to know why the construction of the pavilion at the Sugar Dock has been stopped.
North Pacific Builders Inc., contractor of the pavilion, started the groundwork for the project last month.
œIf they cannot complete the construction its better to break it down so we can use the area for parking, one member of the Pantalan Boys said.
Another member, who also declined to be identified, said the government should also fix the collapsed part of the pier because it poses danger to the people.
The Pantalan Boys is a group of local residents that frequent the Sugar Dock area.
In an interview, Rep. Raymond D. Palacios said only two pavilions, instead of five as originally appropriated, will be constructed in the area due to the requirements for parking lot and rest rooms.
Palacios, Covenant-Saipan, said they will use the œleftover funds for the renovation of the San Isidro beach chapel, for pothole repair and other community projecs.
North Pacific Builder Inc., president Miguel Cruz said the construction was temporarily stopped due to the terrible weather condition.
œWe will resume it today, he told Variety.
He said the construction is ahead of schedule. The project is supposed to be completed in four months.
The contractor was awarded $40,000 for the two pavilions, Variety learned.
The Pantalan Boys said the government should pursue the original plot to construct four pavilions in the area.
œMaybe they already exhausted the money. They are trying to fool us. We want to find out wheres the money, a member said.
