DESPITE a looming threat of a legal action from the losing Democratic gubernatorial team following Saturdays recount, Governor-elect Eddie Calvo and Lt. Governor-elect Ray Tenorio jointly announced yesterday the chairmen of their administrations transition executive committee.
The two named Dan Tydingco and Jerry Crisostomo to co-chair the committee.
Crisostomo is a Republican and Tydingco is a Democrat. Both are in the private sector and have extensive political and government experience.
They are stalwarts of their respective parties. There are many challenges and opportunities ahead for the people of Guam. We can seize the future by coming together, and that is exactly what we are doing. Jerry and Dan are young, energetic leaders who share our vision for the future, said Calvo.
Calvo-Tenorio staunch supporters, Mike Benito, Rose Ramsey, Frank Arriola, Bernie Artero and Eddie Ordonez, were appointed members of the committee.
Further appointments are expected to these subcommittees, said transition committee spokesman Troy Torres.
Calvo said the certification of the election results after the recount was enough and that they are ready to go forward.
The democratic process is moving forward, the Guam Election Commission certified the results and Ray and I have place together our transition team, he said.
He added, the team: [B]rings a excellent balance and experience both from the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. This transition team will place together a formidable organization that will lead to a smooth transition from the Camacho Administration to the incoming Calvo-Tenorio Administration.
Tenorio said that the team is a bi-partisan effort and added, You have both Democrats and Republicans working cooperatively to go the government smoothly.
Meanwhile, the Gutierrez-Aguon campaign released a statement yesterday criticizing the election process.
With a deluge of complaints pending before the Guam Election Commission, the Attorney Generals office, and federal authorities, the 2010 election process is now moving to its next stage. All over the island, voters are pressing for answers to their concerns about irregularities in last Tuesdays election, it stated.
The release further stated that since the September primary, complaints have been mounting regarding absentee ballots, ballot security, and voter protection. In the last few days, these complaintshave become a tidal wave and the problem of the 2010 election is clearly headed to the courts.
Former Governor Carl T. C. Gutierrez and his running mate Senator Frank Aguon Jr. narrowly lost to the Republicans during the Nov. 2 elections.
